200 g/m2 Black Diolen Fabric 2x2 Twill, 120 cm wide

High tenacity polyester fabric for manufacturing composite parts of imitation carbon weave. Diolen can be used with most resin systems including polyester, vinyl ester, urethane-acrylate (Crestapol 1250LV) and epoxy.

Diolen is a polyester based fibre reasonably close in performance to kevlar but cheaper.

The main properties of Diolen fabrics are: excellent elongation to break, excellent abrasion resistance and low price.

The main applications for this carbon imitation fabric are: body panel car parts, kayaks, canoes and boats where impact and abrasion resistance are important but where material price is also a key fact of consideration.

Diolen is typically combined with glass fibre (either chopped strand mat or woven glass rovings) to improve impact strength to an otherwise brittle glass fibre monolithic laminate. In this laminates, tensile strength, providing stiffness, comes from the glass fibre with the high elongation to break coming from the Diolen polyester fabric. 

Diolen is totally compatible with any laminating process including wet-lay, vacuum bagging, resin infusion and RTM.

Due to its very high elongation to break properties and abrasion resistance mean that it is very difficult to trim parts made from this material. Traditional cutting tools will tend to leave a 'furry' edge which subsequently can be removed using a fine Mirka Abranet grit abrasive sanding pad. Loose fabrics can finally be removed with a sharp knife.

NOTE: With a polyester fabric you will not achieve the same visual finish as with a carbon fabric.
